Washing out the Ugly

Carry me down.
Down to the riverbank.
Tote me in.
Right into running water.
Together let’s,
Pull all the ugliness out.
Pain throbbing,
Heart breaking over losses,
Red welted anger,
Over what-could-have-been.
Physicians blinded,
By bias ’cause it’s allowed,
Evil’s images of,
The good lost forever,
Well intentioned,
Rote words of understanding.
Empty hours of,
Loneliness and embarrassment,
Self-preservation,
Locking my heart away.
Heaviest feelings,
Of burdening loved ones.
Wash it all,
Scrub it all whiter than snow,
Here in this water,
Outside Heaven’s entrance,
Where flows the,
River of Mercy and Forgiveness.
Carry me down.
Down to the riverbank.
Tote me in.
Right into running water.
Together let’s,
Pull all the ugliness out.
I’ll ask for grace,
And for the ability to forgive,
For just a bit,
Until You carry me,
Into Heaven itself and,
Earthly problems,
Will be righted or forgotten,
As I worship,
The God who carried me on.

River Runs Deep

image
Come, just as you are
Bring all your scars
     Where the river runs deep
     And it’s waters never sleep
Miracles are birthed here
Love replaces all fear
     Where the river runs deep
     And it’s waters never sleep
Relinquish your deepest hurts
Your ugliness your very worst
     Where the river runs deep
     And it’s waters never sleep
That thirst deep within you
Can be fed here it’s true
     Where the river runs deep
     And it’s waters never sleep
Emptiness aching deep within
Unresolved by means of men
     Where the river runs deep
     And it’s waters never sleep
Your old gives way born again
Here His love always wins
     Where the river runs deep
     And it’s waters never sleep
Take the hand feel it’s scars
He knows everything you are
     Where the river runs deep
     And it’s waters never sleep
See compassion in His eyes glow
From His heart comes the flow
     Where the river runs deep
     And it’s waters never sleep
Where the river runs deep
Is the love you can always keep
     Where the river runs deep
     And it’s source never sleeps.

Down by the River

image

(Photo & poem are originals to the photographer & poet, Faye, of this blog.  Not to be reused with permission.)

Down by the river
Sitting on its banks
The trees dripping with dew
The waters rushing merrily
Down by the river,
Down by the river,
Down by the river,
Sitting on its banks.

Down by the river
Sorrow gurgles in my heart
I cannot climb out on the rocks
Can’t be frozen by its cascade
Down by the river,
Down by the river,
Down by the river,
Sorrow gurgles in my heart.

Down by the river
Praise erupts in my soul
The Creator of this beauty
Is the One who fashioned me,
Down by the river,
Down by the river,
Down by the river,
Praise erupts in my soul!

Down by the river
God touched my wounds
Cleaning away the ugliness
Washing away my pain
Down by the river,
Down by the river,
Down by the river,
God touched my wounds.

Down by the river
I found God today
I felt God today
I touched God today
Down by the river,
Down by the river,
Down by the river,
God found me today.
