Infinity in Him

image
Before there was the universe,
You looked over a vast,
Dark,
Empty,
Void—
And saw potential.

From the depths of Your mind,
Possibility pushed limits,
Chemistry,
Hope,
Difference—
Creativity unleashed abundantly.

So You waved Your hands,
Your thoughts became reality,
Planets spun,
Moons orbited,
Sun formed—
Earth came into existence.

Then You saw Earth and You knew,
Here You’d let Yourself shine,
Oceans,
Mountains,
Animals—
And man created in Your image.

Somewhere at that time when,
You blew breath into Adam,
You saw me,
You knew me,
You believed—
You never paused or hestitated.

All of humanity is infinity inside You,
Inseparable except by our choice,
We walk,
You remain,
Forever hopeful—
We’ll return to God our very beginning.

Every person and place and experience,
You’ve known before time began,
We know,
Right from wrong,
You are love—
We decide acceptance or rejection.

You took a vast darkness of nothing,
Created a universe still in part unexplored,
Amazing,
Intricate,
Delicate yet not—
Your finest work in man including me.

Please take me now so imperfect,
Scars, warts, life of sin,
Repurpose,
Remodel,
Refine—
Be sure I’m totally sold out for You.

The Study of Man

image
There are those among us
Who would have us believe
That near the beginning of man
Was a monkey in a tree
Or an ape that evolved
Into the man we now see.

There are those among us
That would have us believe
This world was formed by accident
The land and the seas
All from some unexplained
Bang that came to be.

There are those among us
That would have us believe
The height of man’s intelligence
Could control land and sea
Safeguard the world and
Substitute for real integrity.

There are those among us
Who would have us believe
That each of us are god
Born to live life as we please
Be that as good people
Or be that life lived wickedly.

There are those among us
Who believe God loves us all
He gave us free will to choose
Even before mankind’s fall
The opportunity to do right
When our backs against the wall.

There are those among us
Who will never understand
Why Our Father above
Will stoop to lend a hand
To one, as I, unworthy
Of the nailprints in His hands.

Of all those among us
Who would ask we believe
In God the Father. Son, and
The Holy Ghost be to please.
Jesus is the answer always
To whatever question comes today,

No Wishes

image

Dear Abba:
There are fewer items on my list each year
For the older that I grow I see
There are fewer possessions I wish to own
A different type of person I want to be.

Peace at last across every land
No more fighting, no wars, no complaints.
End evil’s grip on us completely
Let Satan’s presence grow worn and faint,

An end to hunger across the planet
An end to homelessness too
Leave out threadbare clothes as well
Yes, ending poverty will surely do.

No one outside looking in anymore
A longing to belong visible in their eyes
No balled up fists that pound away
At someone’s dignity and their pride.

An end to all types of abuse
The cruelty of human to all kind
Let no one else have to die needlessly
For this life we cannot rewind.

Eradicate disease of every type
Give to all sound bodies, hearts and minds,
Oh bring the gifts of gratitude
On Your scripture let us thoroughly dine.

Beneath my tree a box of love
Upon the hearth a meal of truth
Inside my heart Your touch my Lord
Nothing else could ever truly do.

Wealth, gold, silver or precious stones
Are things I do not ask from You
Just walk with me every night and day
And help me to walk with You too.

This is my grown-up Christmas list
For I know You truly understand
Material goods and possessions
Tie me only to this earthly land,

When I long to see at last, sweet last
The gates at Heaven’s shore
Then the face of Jesus Christ
With whom I will reside forevermore,

Until then Abba Father hear this prayer
Grant everything Your will permits
Keep within our hearts and souls
The flame Your love has lit.

This is my prayer not mere wishes,
