Plain Put Poem on Bullying

Our children come home asking,
“What does this word mean?”,
And the label is vile and vulgar,
You can’t ignore the question,
And answering is one of those
“Square your shoulders and be an adult” moments,
And our children look as if struck by ten ton beams,
Someone called them “that”? “Why?”

You realize, again, how useless are platitudes,
“Sticks and stones… Words will never hurt me.”
Wrong! Worthless as saying,
“It doesn’t matter we know the truth.”
But 99 out of 100 kids at school?
They believe this lie that morphs into
A life of its own before the 3:00 bell,
And how useless is it to say, “Let it be”?
Or talking to the school?

Anti-bullying policies may be tough on paper,
But the underbelly of them reeks,
Teachers can’t be there every second,
Police can’t monitor every social media site,
Friends have to go home sometime,
Self-defense only gets everyone in trouble,
Every temporary plug eventually leaks,
Being bullied hurts us all the way through.

So we’re left with why it happens,
And here’s the truth, we teach it.
Yes, we do, we create lies instead of accept facts in life,
We exaggerate mistakes to make ourselves look better,
We fight to have our rights, regardless.
We spread gossip like fertilizer,
We’re quick to protest rather than sit,
And examine the truth.

We promote our arrogance in our ignorance,
Our pride waves before humbleness,
Our tempers speak without filters,
Our actions make lies of our promises,
Sending mixed messages to our children,
Castrates our men and violates our women,
All the while saying “don’t bully” with falseness,
That’s why our children bully, you know, don’t you?

We don’t want it to be what it is but it is,
Because we have taught them,
Demand tolerance for your differences,
But don’t tolerate someone else’s.
Claim every privilege and blessing as your right,
And never, ever yield to the greater good,
Above all else pretend not to keep score but win,
This is the truth of bullying.

Until we teach everyone something different,
This is only going to worsen,
Fester like an untreated infection
Covered with pretty bandages,
Eased pain with misused medicine or pot,
While we dance around the issues,
Blame Hollywood for the cursin’,
But truth is that bullying starts at home.

Stopping the Insanity

Do you believe in God?
In a being of three?
Father, Son and Holy Spirit?
Do you believe?
Can we agree?

Do you believe He’s omnipresent
Always present all the time?
Never does He take a break
He’s awake while others sleep
A God of love who is divine?

Do you believe He’s aware
Of every evil deed done everywhere?
Of wars, hatred, old-fashioned greed?
That He could bring it to its knees
Stop the insanity because He does care?

Do you look like me at the news
And feel your blood start to boil
Want to even oblivate the ones
Who kill the innocence and churches burn?
Whose deeds seem a hateful toil?

Do you believe God is love?
Then why can’t we move and stop the pain?
Why can’t we with His help overcome
The ignorance, evil and selfishness?
United couldn’t we stop evils gains?

Do you hurt for the larger events?
That wipe out hundreds and spill man’s blood
The ones that seem so senseless?
Yet are woven repeatedly
In mankind’s history before and after the flood?

Do you believe with God all things are possible?
Then why can’t we stop evil in our homes?
Why does spousal and child abuse go on?
Our children torment one another
Turn the tide now or is it too far gone?

I only know just yesterday
My child was bullied because of race
Came home shaking and in tears
Because some boys thought it fun
To torment her right in her face?

Have I learned a truth I can’t deny
Can the tide not be turned, is it too late?
Far too many will never forgive
Or agree to peace in sincerity?
That evil is through the door not at the gate?

Do you believe God forgives?
In our call to follow in His steps
We too must love our enemies
And pray for those who hurt us regularly
Is this part answer in inviting God where hate is kept?

I believe. Will you join with me?
Give ourselves over to God’s plan?
Can we strive to stop evil at home
So one by one the drops are turned
And evil’s tide turned because God can?

4:35 a.m. Prayer from the Cottage by the Sea

Abba Father:
You are Holy!  You are righteous!  You are worthy of all adoration and all praise!  I need You Abba Father like every creation You ever made.  To You I owe my being, my presence, my very life’s breath.

Unusual heaviness on my heart this morning, an uneasiness, a strange restlessness…my heart seems to be beating out-of-sync…we know what is wrong, I turn to You for You alone can right this wrong! Come quickly Lord!

The world is teeming with Satan’s prowling and we are keenly aware of it this morning. My eyes seek You in the East this morning, my ears strain for the trumpet sound…is this why these emotions battle within me?  Do come quickly Lord!

Why are there bullies Lord?  Why are people, young to old, sometimes like human sharks circling prey, they’ve seemingly forgotten is human, at the slightest scent of blood?  The physically, emotionally or spiritually weakest so vulnerable to attack.  Come quickly Lord!

Encamp angels around those facing the bullies this morning.  Be their strength, be their wisdom and hear their cries.  Come quickly Lord!

The days are gone Abba when a reminder to the bullies that we are all human, we all make mistakes and to stop their behaviour works.  Billions of dollars spent creating anti-bullying campaigns cannot stop it.  All the zero-tolerance policies in all the schools can’t stop it. You can, but will we invite You to intervene widescale?  Come quickly Lord!

From our highest rulers to our youngest citizens we are a nation seemingly, to me, gone crazy.  Robin Hood is a fictional character and his philosophies cannot work in the real flesh and bone world. Jesus’ is real and His Way is The Way, The Truth and The Light and will work if we choose Him! Come quickly Lord!

This morning Lord the war is personal.  This morning the attacks are against our own, we are the prey, we are bleeding…Come quickly Lord!

Let no more young people die because of foolishness!  Life is fragile Lord, do the bullies not understand this?  Do bullies not know there is always someone bigger and scarier around the corner and the bully today is the bullied tomorrow?  Come quickly Lord!  Come quickly!

Here, from this spot, I offer up my prayer, my plea.  My eyes still looking to the East, come quickly Lord!

‘Til Jesus Comes, Keep Praying!
