Pot on the Stove

Photo by Oleg Magni on Pexels.com
Aromas drifting through the house,
Calling our names to the door,
What is under the pot's glass lid?
Steam has the contents slyly hid.

Carrots, garlic, onion, beef,
Beans, peas and whole kernel corn,
Chili powder, salt, pepper, potatoes,
And of course beef broth and tomatoes.

Cooked it low and very slow,
Noses teased and mouths are watering,
Cold outside and Mama's soup in the pot,
We all line up we want it nice and hot.

Before the spoons dip into our bowls,
We pause to thank the Lord above,
For the food that's He's provided us,
And how much Mama clearly loves us.

Abba Father, Thank You

Abba Father,

Thank You for air.
Air that fills my lungs naturally
And that air pumped in to complete the need.
Thank You for the care
You demonstrate in this provision.

Thank You for choice.
For being able to choose my action,
To decide what I believe and don’t,
And even what in my heart gets traction,
And what slips on away.

Thank You for encouragement.
For voices of now and past,
Who clean out my wounds and scars
So poisonous infections can’t last
But are washed away by caring.

Thank You for this moment.
Of awareness of my many blessings.
For too often I focus on my needs
On what I perceive as being lacking
Instead of what You’ve already given.

Thank You for Your love.
This never-ending resource of Your being
That sets within me the standard
Through which all of life and man needs viewing.
So I can be Your hands and feet.

Thank You for this time.
When our hearts truly communicate,
When there’s no motivation or mission
Beyond what You would dedicate
Towards You and Your people.

Amen.

A Letter Long Overdue

image

Dear God,
I wanted to send You a letter.
Some may call this a prayer,
And that’s okay,
Either way,
Its the content, not the title.

First, thanks because I see better.
Visibility improved so quick its rare.
At the break of day,
I must say,
Thank You for the things I take for granted.

Second, there’s You and Your gift at Calvary,
It floods my life with grace,
Seeps through cracks,
Front and back,
Continuous and flowing.

Second, my husband, all he is and his bravery,
Love for You and us on his face,
Intertwined and strong,
That can’t be wrong,
For it too is overwhelming.

Third, our heart and our joy,
Our daughter, half child, half grown,
Each time she says Mama or Dad,
Cause for joy, not sad,
Even when our patience is tried.

Fourth, we’re among the free, not toys,
We’ve accepted we’re not pawns.
You’ve been patient so long,
We hear the sweetest song,
To it our life and hearts are tied.

Fifth, for our homes, what was and is,
Our meals, someone prepared them,
Clean water to drink and bathe,
More though, to us time You gave,
All the little stuff I take for granted.

Sixth, last but not in priority is the ease,
With which You blessed my day,
For this morning I woke,
To hear what You’ve spoke,
And counted my blessings again.

Friendship Harvest

image

Abba Father:

Thank You –
For a friendship forged,
To withstand the time of years,
Of miles times miles separation,
Still a ’cause for celebration.

Thank You –
That laughter we still share,
Your love interwoven ‘tween,
For the bands we share so kind,
I Corinthians 13 love that binds.

Thank You –
For the harvest time,
Measure of successful work,
Fruits of friendship set before,
Offerings to You forevermore.

Thank You –
For a friend such as have I,
That came to remind me of,
The harvest now of friends so true,
Arms around me of You so sure.

Thanksgiving Blessing

image

Lord,
Today, may God’s presence in our hearts
Be one reason we have to be thankful.
May our presence in others hearts
Be one reason they have to be thankful.
May the gratitude we express to You be genuine,
And the gratitude others express to God for us be real.
May this Thanksgiving prayer be a light for You
May our lives be a beacon for others to find You.
          Amen

Gratitude from the Cottage by the Sea

image
Abba Father,
The door to my “secret room” is open
My sins, my flaws, weaknesses exposed
But I’ve prayed about them before
These things I hide You already know.
I didn’t come to our seaside abode
To pray over things or past hurts
I come here today to say thank you
For the way Your Spirit within me works.
Let me express my gratitude
For Your daily protection and strength
Your provisions and Your guidance
Have added tremendously to my days in length.
Your love for me is so vital
It’s grace, it’s peace, it’s joy
It heals my deepest hurts and anguish
More comforting than a child’s treasured toy.
I take so much, too much, for granted
Show so little gratitude in turn
How pitiful the time I take to express
Thanks for Your love within that burns.
For people loving me beyond measure
When I’ve deserved it the least
They’ve stepped up and loved me like You
When I’ve been much like a beast.
I’m ashamed of the times I forget
To say thank You for them too,
Its weak and its even foolish
To forget one’s truest of true.
Lord Your blessings upon me can’t be numbered
Like the grains of sand on the beach
Your love that covers me keeps growing,
Keeping them all within my grasping reach.
Let me take the time say You
Thank You Abba for blessings abound
Thank You for this moment right now
For being lost now being found.
Thank You Abba Father, thank You
No expression will ever be enough
For the blessings always around me
As beautiful as the sand and surf.
