Less of Me, More of You

Photo by James Wheeler on Pexels.com

O Holy God:

Less of me, more of You

Let that be what they see—

Less of me, more of You

Let that be all they read.

For it’s not my strength or abilities

That holds me in this hour—

It’s less of me, more of You

From which flows Your mighty power.

Weeping in the Parking Lot

Photo by Karolina Grabowska on Pexels.com

Weeping in the parking lot,

Crying out God’s name,

Praying in the parking lot,

Lord, I am not ashamed.

It’s not just any parking lot,

It’s for appointment ninety-five,

When we leave this parking lot,

Please let us know what’s wrong.

Please rain mercy in this parking lot,

Flood the exam room with it too,

There’s hope alive in this parking lot,

We’re sure You’ll see us through.

Worshipping in the parking lot,

Clinging onto You for who You are,

Weeping in the parking lot,

Praying for answers from You.

Prayer for Wisdom

Dear Lord,

Let me act wisely

Let my feet walk in Your lane

May I choose You first,

Shake free of sins curse

Though doing so bring joy or pain.

Dear Lord,

Wrap me in Your light

Let my mind choose to be wise

May I taste all Your Word

Be it bitter or honey

Let me choose You to authorize.

Dear Lord,

Open my heart to Your’s

May I put aside all that will hinder

May I remember my call

Though it be easy or hard

To You I must completely surrender.

Footsteps in the Hall

Photo by Aa Dil on Pexels.com

Footsteps shuffle down the hall,

Drag, shuffle, drag…

Rearrange my face to smile,

Everything is going to be okay,

What else should I do or say?

Hurry to cook another dinner,

To bring it to the table on time…

Another meal he can’t eat,

Weighted head bent to sleep,

I turn my face so he can’t see me weep.

Another test, another scan to do,

A list of what and what not…

Check again, are we prepared?

Desperation cracks his voice,

We won’t give up this is our choice.

He sleeps and I stay awake,

I guard hoping death doesn’t steal…

Though I know it’s not up to us.

Prayers for healing, enlightenment,

Pleas for strength and empowerment.

When will this darkness end?

Please God, honor our faith in You…

Help us be faithful always.

Carry us through this storm,

Strengthen us though we are worn.

Today’s Blessings

Photo by Aleksandar Pasaric on Pexels.com

Blessings pop like quick raindrops

Upon our thristy lives

For without You Lord, I can’t imagine

How we would even survive.

Though what we deserve

For the way we live and act

Is condemnation and judgment

Your blessings flow despite that.

Mercy washes like a flood

Soaking us in Your grace

Forgiveness, reconciliation are ours

For Christ died in our place.

Thank You Lord, for the blessings

For the grace, mercy and love

Open my heart so these I return

To those here and You above.

All of Us Have not Forgotten

There are 2977 plus souls somewhere

Who died for their country that day,

When jihadists found a deceptive way

To attack and destroy part of America.

Before the dust had settled

American’s of every color, gender, creed

Rose as one to overcome evil’s deed

To send the hate on it’s way.

We mourned and we called upon God

Such hate and anger we didn’t understand,

We stood as one people hand in hand

When they attacked America that day.

That time of unity didn’t survive

And today New York City dies from within

Good is lost in evil’s twisted hated grin

With riots, burning, destruction and crime.

Their leaders, as so many others,

Blame COVID, police brutality, Trump and racism,

This is why we’re being forced into socialism

A dark movement sweeping the land.

Those 2977 plus souls looking at us,

Those who tragically died in 2001,

Are weeping wondering who really won,

Was it us or was it them?

This day if we could push pause

Remember that day the towers fell

And that this is America not hell.

Find love is enough for good to prevail?

He Walks this Path

His footsteps shuffle down the hall

A forty-three year walks like he’s ninety,

Where once he walked with purpose and strength,

Now he drags shadows of illness that upon him fall,

As if in his life he’s given his all-in-all.

His dear, dear face is guant and drawn

Whiskers grow in new shades of gray and white,

Upon his face lines of faith wet with tears

He shuffles down a path on Winter’s Lawn

Searching for another days sun to dawn.

His breath is shallow and he is worn

From the walk from bed to bath,

He struggles to sit down before he falls,

This man whose heart to God’s he’s sworn,

Beloved husband and father now so forlorn.

His body wastes away more each day,

Doctor’s have no hint of what’s wrong,

A “let’s see what happens” kind of attitude

Have they heard nothing of what we say?

How can he live on in this fading way?

He’s walked by faith over half his life

Believing God, You’d always see him through,

Trying to give You, Lord his all-in-all,

For twenty-three years I’ve been his wife

Witnessing this cuts like a thousand knives.

His head now on his pillow lays sweet,

Exhausted from walking a twenty feet trek.

And I watch over him as he has me before

Is he still breathing? I check in his sleep.

As my heart clings to our God and I silently weep.

Don’t Dance with the Devil

Don’t dance with the devil

Don’t give him a whirl or two,

He’ll trap you before you know

What has imprisoned you.

Don’t think you can control

The places he’ll take you,

His schemes race so quickly

Zero to a million and two.

Don’t accessorize with his symbols

Expecting he’ll turn away.

Playing dress-up with the devil?

He’ll destroy your soul each day.

Don’t dance with the devil

For he pays for the band,

And he who controls the music

Soon has you in his hand.

Reality, Consequences

Photo by Mohamed Khaled on Pexels.com

There are consequences–

Whether good or bad,

Some are happy, some mad.

There are consequences–

For every choice we make,

No matter what we try to fake.

There are consequences–

For the saved and lost,

For peace or war at any cost.

There are consequences–

When we lose our cool,

For every time we act a fool.

There are consequences–

When fists in anger raise,

When to God we lift our praise.

There are consequences–

When only skins color we see,

For then no one is truly free.

There are consequences–

When we try to pretend,

Especially when we neglect a friend.

There are consequences–

When we loot, bully and burn,

Even when we refuse to learn.

There are consequences–

For taking what’s not ours,

When we abuse our powers.

There are consequences–

To living stuck in the past,

For that time the die is cast.

There are consequences–

To breaking the law,

When from God’s grace we fall.

There are consequences–

With each hearts  that’s turned,

When hate in hate is continually churned.

There are consequences–

Whether we’re right or wrong,

Eventually we hear life’s last song.

There are consequences–

When we go with the mob,

And the times we kneel to God.

There are consequences–

For every decision made,

Each one has a price to paid.

Predictions

Diagnosis true and grim,
Dire predictions to the brim,
Shadows haunting milky film,
Chance of happiness totally slim.
But who can know tomorrow’s gift?
What chance may cause a shift?
Life buried in a deep snow drift,
May bring the spring and heal the rift?
What Satan means to destroy trust,
Turn flesh to fire and bones to dust,
Could be turned by God and must,
Be asked to heal heart and crust.
