We pray to understand what it is we see,

Perhaps grasp the deeper meaning,

Of all lives from sea to sea,

Regardless of money, status or heritage.

We pray to understand the hatred,

For the color of anyone’s skin,

The very reasons honor seems dead,

Amongst those attacking without regard.

We pray to understand the reasons

For the riots, disrespect and lies,

It feels like it’s some crazy open season

If you’re not exactly who they are.

We pray to understand the senseless taking

Of property, dreams and human lives

Where is victory in all this violence growing,

For it seems to only be making things worse?

We pray to understand the passiveness,

Of people whose indifference ’til now

Is part of the reason for this mess,

Being intentional or not doesn’t matter.

We pray to understand our need

To fit into this world gone astray

To fulfill our own wants and greed,

Being politically correct has gone on way to long.

We pray we understood it all,

Of what blame belongs to us,

Being humble and repentant is Your call,

With this respondence You show us the way.
