When the Grief is the Deepest

In memory of Annie Ruth Allred.  A new resident of Heaven.

Your eyes open at the sound of the world awakening,
You wonder, even aloud, “How can the world go on?
Does everyone not understand my mother is gone?
Stop! Don’t you know I feel now, so alone?”

The load you lift today a physical mass,
Mama isn’t suffering but a part of you has left.
You feel yesterday’s tears dry upon your face,
Today’s tears track and etch their own place,
Brief though it be, you mourn her place in the race.

But the world woke up this morning,
The sunlight still through the windows pouring,
And Lord willing you and the world will continue to wake,
Waters will flow and ebb through life’s lakes,
This of your mother’s legacy you must take.

Be ready, now when you’re young,
Prepare your heart, urge your family along,
One day your journey too will end,
Your child’s time of deep grief will then begin,
With God as our Lord, they’ll know our souls reside with Him.

He Sees You, O He Sees You

The walls close in upon you,
Outside torrential rains wage,
Every bit of news is to tell you,
The worse is coming here and there.
Your body and spirit may be broken,
Held captive in the enemy’s cage.

Take heart all those of you who suffer!
He sees you, yes He sees you,
Knows every moment that you suffer,
And mourns your losses and pain,
Reach out your hand in faith,
In this very moment Jesus sees you.

You must trust a little bit longer,
You’ll come through this time,
Hold on and hold out a little longer,
This is no match for Christ in you,
If you’ve given Him your heart,
He’s sealed you with a seal saying, “Mine”.

On the other side is Jesus,
Get past this chaos, hold His hand,
When the storm ceases for Jesus,
For even nature obeys His command.
Where dark are the skies at midnight,
The Son shines on the same piece of land.

He sees you and He has a plan,
He knows every hair on your head,
Protecting and prospering is in His plan,
Don’t sell short too quickly,
Don’t throw the fight just yet,
God is still weaving the threads.

He sees you, O He sees you,
Every breath you take He ordains,
He sees you, O He sees you,
He’s not forgotten you exist,
The answer to prayer is on the way,
It’s the solution for you He arranged.

Three Holes on a Hillside

There are three deep holes on the hillside,
The one they call Calvary.
Just wide enough and deep enough,
To have held the lower portion of a rough hewn tree,
For criminals crosses to fall down in,
When their sentence passed of guilty.

There were three holes in the hillside,
The one they called Calvary,
I thank God for those three holes
Mainly for the one for the middle tree,
From which Jesus died of His own free will,
For the eternal reconciliation* bought on Calvary’s hill.

Quiet Prayers of the Heart

Lord, I’m sick again.

But, the sun rose,

And my husband kissed me goodbye,

     On his way to work,

     A steady job,

     Serving our country’s veterans,

And our daughter,

Moaned her good morning routine.

Counting my blessings with-in.

Lord, it’s hard to breath.

But the sun still shines,

And prayer is still available,

     And God still answers,

Even said as I’m falling asleep.

In my mind’s eye,

The geese fly south,

Sign of life not death.

Lord, time is a moving part,

This day too will end,

You’ll have gotten me through it,

     And every blessing,

     With a thousand more besides,

Will be in line like sheep,

A gratitude listing,

Even in quiet prayers of the heart.
