Is this a Darkest Day?

This is among the most uncertain I thought I’d never see,
In the land of the brave and the home of the free,
Where the flag that flys red, white and blue,
Has come to stand for something less noble, less true.
It had fewer stars back when Francis Scott Key,
Searched through the night and penned “O say can you see?…”
Perhaps it’s glorious beauty tugged at hearts more
When American shores weren’t a revolving door.
Many a soldier has served America with pride,
And stood up for its ideals fighting side by side.
Some looked at us and saw the defender of the weak,
Others saw us as a bully to the strong.
But when I saw the flag, snapping in the wind,
I never once thought this blessing would end.
Our military was tough, strongest in the world,
Our government cared about people their lives unfurled.
“In God we Trust” wasn’t an ancient motto,
Our leaders prayed to God without sorrow.
Now the flag flys haphazardly in fewer places,
People burn it and laugh in our faces,
We object to the disrespect but quiet too long,
Our leaders merely do a dance and song.
Our flag, Ole’Glory, Our Banner, Our rallying point,
May the future I can’t see put you back in front.
She’s a beautiful sight to those who understand,
She didn’t come free and she needs a hand.
Fifty states strong from the original thirteen,
God bless us and may America ever be.
