A broken heart beats on in life

Shattered at the hands of mankind

    Love unreturned by another

    Spouse beaten by the other

    Parents moan with disappointment

    Patient leaves a doctor’s appointment

The reason why our hearts are broke

Vary as much as we

But God still holds the key

And remains close in our need.

 

Crushed spirits can no longer fly

All hopes and dreams clipped like wings

    Again “You can’t” is heard

    Jealously rejects the better words

    Perfectionists pick apart the quilt

    Hopes and dreams shattered, spilt

We humans tear each other down

Slaves to our vanity

God saves the spirit crushed

Renews life to dry dust

Never leaving us in our need.
