These Blessings

image

I remember and I marvel
At the joy in my days
For no matter where I travel
These memories with me stay.
The love in my mother’s eyes
Gentleness in her touch
The sad day we said goodbye
For I love her very much.
Confidence in my husband’s stance
God’s light within his eyes
The steps we share in this dance
The kiss we share at each goodbye.
Pure joy and love our daughter brings
As a child and now a teen
Such life in the dreams she sings
Her uniqueness within we’ve seen.
The velvet strength in our Father’s love
His standard to be pure
His calling to each here and above
His presence within to hold us sure.

Life in the Now

God knows what I have need of

Before I lay the needs at His feet

He knows concerns within me

Long before of them I speak.

He knows the hair upon my head

Along with the number of my days

He even understands my heart

For He knows no other way.

Many things are taught and said

Wrong and right in the name of God

His Word remains the standard

As through this world we trod.

In truth I cannot speak for Him

Explain His mind I dare not try

But our proof that He exists

Comes to each before we die.

He never promised us an easy life

If we’d believed and followed Him

But to Him I pray to always cling

Though man made hope grow dim.

If you wonder if God does exists

Does He care and love for you?

The answer is clear my friend

He does, He did and it is true.

He knows the needs you have

Before you lay them at His feet

He knows your heart and mind

Before one word you even speak.

He knows the hairs upon your head

The number of your earthly days

He treasures the wonders of your mind

Each prayer you sincerely pray.

Don’t push Him away to wait awhile

For life is best lived in the now

Trust Him now while time exists

He’s waiting to show you how.

We, I, Us

image

Before we become we

Before I becomes I

Before us becomes us

We must first recognize –

That we are who we are

That I am who I be

That us is okay being us

Our place in You the prize –

God made I to be I

God made we to be we

God made us to be us

Being that is the key —

Before I am who I am

Before we are who we be

Before us is okay being us

We are God’s family.

From the Cottage by the Sea at Daybreak

image
Good morning Lord it’s me
Here at our Cottage by the Sea,
Speechless now before You
As the sun unfurls it’s rays
As land and sea bid welcome another day.

Rolling back the night that fell
Reminding me of Your truth to tell,
A ball of a golden-orangish hue
Bids the flowers, birds and clouds
Love and live the Lord out loud.

O the peace that my heart feels
From the assurance You are real
For only Your’s is such a face
To bring Your love alive
Such patience You do exercise,

Be Grateful

image

The world’s not perfect, this I know
Anyone alive will tell you it’s so
Yet in this life its the only one we have
Be grateful-
Troubles come, and troubles go each day
Some come again, some move in to stay
Yet here on earth this is what we have
Be grateful-
Parents sometimes, we make mistakes
And sometimes we lack what it takes
Yet so many children parents do not have
Be grateful-
Children too can a bad judgment make
Teenagers be unaware what life takes
Yet many women’s wombs a child can’t have
Be grateful-
Jobs can be hard, bosses mean and rude
Pay can be miserable and you then too
Yet some search for a job and don’t have
Be grateful-
Life can cut you down, make survival hard
It may seem as if lost all your cards
Yet somebody, somewhere is worse off than you
Be grateful-
Gratitude, loyalty, sincerity, truth
All matter to our God who sees you,
Take care of all you find You have
Be grateful.
Count your blessings, count them true
Count them once, then again through
For somebody, somewhere does not have
Be grateful-
God never promised a life of ease
Even when you feel the ocean breeze
But He promised us a life we have
Be grateful-
Be grateful my friends, count it loud
Each silver lining, each reason to be proud
Be grateful for every blessing you have
Be grateful.

The Bible

image

/>

For years the Scriptures have been taught

From pulpits, roadsides, rich and poor abodes

By men who knew freedom, men who were bought

By men with pure motives, men with evil intent.

Down through the centuries Scriptures were heard

There were some who listened, some with deaf ears

Some who believed all, some questioned the Word

Still down through all history the Bible it came.

To great discredit some of the teachings were wrong

When man used the Scripture to further their cause

Twisted, manipulated and piece milled it along

Proof man’s heart can be evil and misuse anything.

The glory, comfort, understanding that rains down

When man sets to teach the truth from the Bible

In every city, by-pass, every village and town

By those who take responsibility for what they teach.

No other document, no other such proof

Has challenged, inspired, revealed, explained

Been misquoted, used, freely given and kept aloof

Than the Holy Bible which is still alive to this day.

Regardless of education, status or wealth

The Scripture can be absorbed by all hearts

Those who are healthy those in ill health

When the Holy Spirit guides the reader along.

Don’t take it lightly, don’t deny its power

The layers of truth in the Scripture found

Hear it, listen, find strength for the hour

For your own salvation take it to heart.

The Piece That’s Missing

image
A yearning deep within me,
An ache I can’t explain.
If I could only look and see
The source of the pain.
As if a hole existed
Deep within my heart,
The plug’s address is listed
That Jesus is that part.
Life is beauty and ugly
Laughter and bitter tears,
In Him all things can be endured
For His love casts out our fears.
Yet, I cling to the comfortable,
Though I know it is wrong,
Jesus though draws me closer
He sings to me my souls song.
When I ask Christ to enter
In my heart to take His place
Faith in Him lets me see Him
Though I don’t see His face.
Jesus fits the hole exactly
The ache for the missing gone
Thank You Lord for saving me
I no longer face this life alone.
Is there an ache within you?
A yearning you can’t explain?
Then turn right now to Jesus,
You’ll never again be the same.
He is strength for the hour,
Courage for each and every day,
Follow close His teachings
He walks with You every way.
Expect your ordinary living
Christianity is no free pass pill
But to the joys and sorrows
He is grace to cling to if you will.

Poems that Influenced Me #1

I’ve written poetry since I was in the fifth grade. But as a youth in middle and high school I was greatly influenced by a book of poetry my mother purchased with a title I cannot remember exactly. I’ve tried to track it down, for as the book was lost in a house fire, I’d love to own a copy today. I’ve been unsuccessful.

The book contained the poem titled, The Hell Bound Train, among many others such as Casey at the Bat, and Where Have You Been Billy-Boy. But the poem I first mentioned made a huge impression upon me. The poet, like the book, seems impossible to track down. Many people claim the poem was written by a now deceased loved one but no one has presented evidence to prove the authorship. On both sites, allpoetry.com and poemhunter.com, the poem is listed as being written by anonymous Americans.

Clearly the poem would be considered dated in light of many things about Christianity and sharing the gospel today. But it got my attention some thirty odd years ago and I share it with you today. I have inserted pictures which, of course, the poem was not published with. –Donna

A Texas cowboy lay down on a barroom floor,
Having drunk so much he could drink no more;
So he fell asleep with a troubled brain
To dream that he rode on a hell-bound train.

The engine with murderous blood was damp
And was brilliantly lit with a brimstone lamp;
An imp, for fuel, was shoveling bones,
While the furnace rang with a thousand groans.

The boiler was filled with lager beer
And the devil himself was the engineer;
The passengers were a most motly crew-
Church member, atheist, Gentile, and Jew,

Rich men in broadcloth, beggers in rags,
Handsome young ladies, and withered old hags,
Yellow and black men, red, brown, and white,
All chained together-O God, what a site!

While the train rushed on at an awful pace-
The sulphurous fumes scorched their hands and face;
Wider and wider the country grew,
As faster and faster the engine flew.

Louder and louder the thunder crashed
And brighter and brighter the lightning flashed;
Hotter and hotter the air became
Till the clothes were burned from each quivering frame.

And out of the distance there arose a yell,
‘Ha, ha,’ said the devil, ‘we’re nearing hell!’
Then oh, how the passengers all shrieked with pain
And begged the devil to stop the train.

But he capered about and danced for glee,
And laughed and joked at their misery.
‘My faithful friends, you have done the work
And the devil never can a payday shirk.

‘You’ve bullied the weak, you’ve robbed the poor,
The starving brother you’ve turned from the door;
You’ve laid up gold where the canker rust,
And have given free vent to your beastly lust.

‘You’ve justice scorned, and corruption sown,
And trampled the laws of nature down.
You have drunk, rioted, cheated, plundered, and lied,
And mocked at God in your hell-born pride.

‘You have paid full fair, so I’ll carry you through,
For it’s only right you should have your due.
Why, the laborer always expects his hire,
So I’ll land you safe in the lake of fire,

‘Where your flesh will waste in the flames that roar,
And my imps torment you forevermore.’
Then the cowboy awoke with an anguished cry,
His clothes wet with sweat and his hair standing high

Then he prayed as he never had prayed till that hour
To be saved from his sin and the demon’s power;
And his prayers and his vows were not in vain,
For he never road the hell-bound train.

Not One of my Finer Moments

image

Lord,

A simple trip to vote.

All chatter stops.

Four faces stare at us

Four mouths gape open

Four sets of eyes go ‘pop’!

Three fingers point to the left

One finger points at herself

Driver’s license, signature,

Ballot, pen, worn-out cardboard “booth”

Oh ladies I’m not deaf.

“Did she have only one leg?”

(Well, yes, it won’t regrow,

MIA, it is gone, gone, gone.)

“Is that why traffic stopped?”

(Yes, firemen stopped the flow.)

“That man? Son? Grandson?

(No, not the son or grandson.)

“Husband? No, really?”

(Yes Ladies. Husband.)

Is this experience done?

Lord, can You tell me why?

Why people think I don’t hear

Their whispers and remarks

Why today of all days

They had to reach my ears?

How did I ignore them?

Keep a smile on my face?

Say thank you?

Wish them a good evening?

As I wheeled out of the place?

Not one of my finer moments Lord.

You know that, somehow though

I didn’t cry and didn’t even want to.

Didn’t bring it up to my husband.

Just at 2:06 a.m. to You.

It chokes off my breath

Like something swallowed wrong

Not one of my finest moments

But You and I are the only

Ones who know it hurt so long.
